At CSA Medical Supply we offer many different styles of hospital bed mattresses. If you are unsure, or need help choosing the correct hospital bed for your loved one we are here to help. Below is a list of the different kinds of mattresses that we offer.
This mattress is suitable for patients who have some mobility and for those who would be using the bed for short duration of time. It is the most common type of mattress and the most basic with quality inner springs inside. It does not have any advanced features like sore prevention. However it is still comfortable for those who do not require any advanced features.
These mattresses are traditional in nature and are constructed using foam inside. They mix segments of softer foam in areas that come in contact with the body where pressure sores are the most common, with more resilient harder foam around the edges. Some mattresses may even have a “Heel Slope” design in which the pressure point from the back of the heel is taken off with a slight bend to the knees.
Alternating Pressure Mattresses
In this mattress, the inflation and deflation of the individual air cells are altered to offer relief at the pressure points where the mattress comes in contact with the body. It also promotes better circulation and blood flow which results in better, faster healing and healthier skin for the individual using the mattress. This mattress can assist in the management of pressure ulcer's.
These mattresses are also called heavy duty mattresses. They are available in air circulating and foam styles. These are designed specifically with extra support to provide maximum comfort for larger patients They should be used along with a bariatric bed for best results.
Overlays are applied to the hospital bed mattresses to improve circulation and to prevent pressure ulcers from developing. They are usually filled with various substances like gel, air, foam or water. They can be divided into two main types, dynamic and static. Static overlays are designed to distribute the user’s weight over a larger area by consistent inflation. This reduces the pressure to a greater extent. Dynamic overlays use a power source to consistently alter's the support levels thereby decreasing the pressure. When the constant pressure on the body surfaces is reduced, the development of pressure ulcers is also inhibited.
Hospital bed mattresses selection becomes critical when the patient is expected to use it for a longer duration of time. You should take enough care and spend enough time to select the correct mattress so that your loved one feels comfortable, safe, and secure while resting.
